Keeper of the Temple by postapocalypsia Keeper of the Temple by postapocalypsia
This is an idea that was bumping around in my head for a while - I drew some thumbnails to refine it some, then refined it some more in Vue (terrain program).
I struggled a little with the medium (oil) and the photo (glare and focus) but whining aside, here it is!
Original is 1220mm x 440mm oil on board

It is somewhat like an Egyptian temple - I made it up but the girl's dress certainly makes it seem Egyptian.
Cheers :)

you could have added more details to the pillars... like some carvings/inscriptions etc :D

Thanks:) The thought crossed my mind and I was tempted to add detail while I was painting but then I realized that what I wanted most was a mood of understatement and sparsity so that the temple couldn't be tied to any particular civilization or culture. I guess the temple is an extension of the girl in a sense. I appreciate your observation!

ah yes! ...tht is true :)
adding inscriptions would tie it to a culture :D

i am amazed how you could very accurately get a watercolor effect using Oils.... :O the clouds look amazingly fluid :D

very impressed ... keep rocking! :D :D

I actually started with an underpainting in acrylic and most of the sky is acrylic, although my approach is fairly similar with both mediums.
Thanks:)

when you say you draw up some thumbnails do you literally mean normal thumbnail size I.E. :icongalius: ?

Ahaha thanks for clarifying that. I heard other artists say the same thing and im thinking to myself "how can they fit that whole piece on a sketch the size of a thumbnail?"

:D

I'm sure some folks do! But my eyes aren't that good - maybe if I was more like Shrek it would be more accurate!=D

Epic!!! What's she shy of? Sand and trees? XD I love this, what a great atmosphere. Has a real "wish you were here" feeling, because really, I wish I was there.

I guess the temple could be her sanctuary, her comfort zone - cool and shady and dependable, while the outside world could be both beautiful and dangerous. That's the sort of vibe I felt about her...
Happy travels!:)
